Honshu - Hokkaido - Kyushu
In Kanagawa, a blend of stunning waterfowl and brilliant passerines was encountered. Imagine the records: the elegant Smew, the beautiful Mandarin Duck, the distinct Falcated Duck, and the jewel-toned Red-flanked Bluetail—all were sighted in one day, alongside a host of common songbirds.
Hokkaido provided guaranteed views of iconic, large species like the gigantic Steller's Sea-Eagle and White-tailed Eagle. Furthermore, the mystical Blakiston's Fish Owl and the regal Red-crowned Crane were photographed—truly unforgettable encounters.
The southern island of Kyushu hosts one of the world's great birding spectacles. Thousands of Hooded and White-naped Cranes were witnessed staging in a breathtaking winter display. We also celebrated the sighting of the globally rare Swan Goose here.
Even in the heart of Japan, rarity was found! Recent reports from Osaka include a fantastic sighting of a male Baer’s Pochard, a species listed as Critically Endangered—a major highlight was recorded for an international birder's life list!
